New to Amstelveen
New to Amstelveen? Register with a GP before you need one
Have you recently moved to Amstelveen? We recommend registering with a GP as soon as possible, even if you are healthy and do not currently need medical care.
Do not wait until you need an appointment.
If you only register when you are ill, we may not be able to complete your registration immediately or offer you a GP appointment at short notice.
The Dutch government therefore recommends registering with a GP. The Municipality of Amstelveen also provides international residents with information on finding a local GP.
Why register in advance?
In the Netherlands, your GP (huisarts) is usually your first point of contact for medical care. Your GP can provide medical advice, prescribe medication and refer you to a specialist or hospital if necessary.
If you register in advance, your details will already be known to the practice when you need medical care.
Registration is free
Do you have Dutch health insurance? Registering with a GP is free of charge.
GP consultations are also covered by Dutch basic health insurance and are not subject to the compulsory deductible (eigen risico) or a co-payment.
Please note that other healthcare costs, such as medication, laboratory tests or hospital care, may be subject to your deductible.
